We are a small team of talented professionals with a wide range of skills and experience. Our full-time staff includes one physiotherapist, an athletic therapist/kinesiologist, two massage therapists, and two office administrators. By functioning as a team we can better collaborate on assessments, diagnoses, plans of care, and treatments.

After graduating from Mount Allison University, Philip went on to complete his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in 1966. Shortly after graduating, he worked in Clovis, New Mexico then Durham North Caroline and was exposed to other physiotherapy treatment approaches. It was during his time in the US that he first traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to learn about the philosophy of Movement System Impairment from Dr. Shirley Sahrmann at Washington Univesity. Since then he has traveled regularly to St. Louis to further his education in approach to rehabilitation.
Since moving to Pictou in 1999, then opening up Back to Basics Physiotherapy Inc. in 2001, Philip has continued his post-graduate education. He received his Diploma of Advanced Manual Manipulative Therapy from the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 2016, achieving the designation of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). Philip is one of three Physiotherapists in Pictou County with this distinction and of the 3% of Physiotherapists in Nova Scotia.
He is an instructor with the National Orthopaedic Division and is on the national committee for short courses for the National Orthopaedic Divison. Philip is committed to continually educating himself and others and rehabilitation.
When not at work, Philip enjoys exercise and working out by being involved with his family and friends.

Nicole completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Kinetics from St. Francis Xavier University. She graduated from Sheridan College with a Diploma in Sports Injury Management. She is a Certified Athletic Therapist, a member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA). Nicole has her Sports First Responder certification and is a Registered Kinesiologist.
Nicole has worked with many competitive sports teams and events. She had the opportunity to volunteer with the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick and to work at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Ontario. She is the Athletic Therapist for the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus RAMS and Pictou County Athletics Track and Field.
Tanya is the office administrator and receptionist at our Pictou office location where she keeps the clinic running smoothly by overseeing all of the day to day operations. Every client that walks through the doors will be greeted by, and have the pleasure of interacting with Tanya who has over 20 years of customer service experience under her belt. She has been working alongside her husband Philip for 17 years after studying psychology at St. Francis Xavier University. A busy mother of two daughters involved in numerous competitive sports, Tanya recognizes the importance of properly managing injuries to support accelerated recovery for the maintenance of a healthy physical and mental well-being. With this insight, Tanya makes it a top priority to book clients at the earliest convenience.
